The landmarks in every guidebook — and the tours that tell you what guidebooks don't.
Ljubljana is small enough to cross on foot in twenty minutes and coherent enough to feel like it was designed by one mind, because in many respects it was. Jože Plecnik, the Slovenian architect who studied under Otto Wagner in Vienna, returned to his hometown in 1921 and spent nearly two decades reshaping it with bridges, fountains, lamp posts, market arcades, and a covered walkway along the Ljubljanica that turned a functional river into a promenade. The result is a city that feels simultaneously ancient and deliberately composed.
The 1895 earthquake that destroyed roughly a tenth of Ljubljana turned out to be the catalyst for the Vienna Secession streetscapes that make the old town so photogenic.
The Dragon Bridge, completed in 1901, placed four bronze dragons at its corners and gave the city a permanent symbol. Walk from the Triple Bridge toward the castle hill on a Saturday morning and the green market along the river will stop you repeatedly, with stalls selling honey from the Karst plateau, dried mushrooms, and the mild sheep's cheese called tolminc.

Before you walk.
The historic centre is largely flat and walkable, with the main exception being the castle hill, which involves a steep climb. A funicular runs to the castle from Krekov trg for those who prefer not to walk up. The Triple Bridge and Dragon Bridge areas are fully step-free and on the main tour route.
Ljubljana's airport is about 26 kilometres northwest and well connected by shuttle bus to the centre. The train and bus station are a short walk from the old town. The starting point for most tours is near Presernov trg (Preseren Square) at the Triple Bridge, which is centrally located and easy to reach from any accommodation in the city.
No. Download the tour content over wifi before you start and the AudaTours app will run fully offline. Slovenia has good mobile coverage and EU roaming rates apply for European visitors, but the car-free centre means you will want both hands free anyway, so headphones and a downloaded tour are the practical choice.
Ljubljana has an excellent cafe culture, particularly along the Ljubljanica riverbanks where terrace seating is plentiful from spring through autumn. The tour route passes several good stopping points. Slovenians take their coffee seriously; a traditional mali kave (small coffee) is espresso with a small jug of hot water on the side.

This tour was such a great way to see the city. The stories were interesting without feeling too scripted, and I loved being able to explore at my own pace.
This was a solid way to get to know Brighton without feeling like a tourist. The narration had depth and context, but didn't overdo it.
Started this tour with a croissant in one hand and zero expectations. The app just vibes with you, no pressure, just you, your headphones, and some cool stories.
