And so, here we are, at the end of our little wandering through St Albans.

We began at the White Lion, with all its quiet strength and old memories tucked into brick and beam. From there, we made our way to the Hare and Hounds, where the town seemed to lean a little closer, as if eager to share another tale. At the Boot, there was that lovely feeling one finds only in places that have been lived in deeply, where laughter and footsteps seem to linger long after they have gone. The Fleur de Lys gave us something softer, a touch of grace, a hint of old splendour. Then came the Old Kings Arms, with its noble air and its sense of having seen so very much. And now, at the Cock, we arrive with the feeling that the story is not ending at all, only settling gently into your hands.

That, I think, is the charm of a town like this. It does not rush to impress you. It simply opens, one door at a time. A sign creaks above a lane, a window catches the eye, a worn stone step reminds you how many people have come this way before. And suddenly, without quite knowing when it happened, you are no longer only passing through. You are part of it, if only for a while.

I hope this walk has given you more than names and old walls. I hope it has given you a feeling. A sense of company. A little glow of wonder. Perhaps even that rare pleasure of being both here and elsewhere at once, standing in the present while the past moves softly beside you.

There is something rather moving in that, do you not think? To follow these streets, to pause where others paused, to listen where others laughed, argued, toasted, and dreamed. So much life gathered into six stops, and yet the town still holds so much more in reserve. That is the secret of St Albans. It never tells you everything. It leaves a little thread behind, just enough to draw you back.

Thank you for walking with me. It has been a pleasure, a true one. And as you take your leave, I hope you carry with you not just the map of where you have been, but the feeling of it all: the warmth, the age, the hum of stories still alive in these streets.

Until our next wander, do keep this place somewhere close. St Albans has a lovely habit of returning to the mind when one least expects it.

This was a solid way to get to know Brighton without feeling like a tourist. The narration had depth and context, but didn't overdo it.
